Like creating a comic based around the idea of dead comedians all co-existing in some sort of Comedy Heaven and interacting with one another. It’s a really, really stupid idea.

tl;dr this is probably an excuse for me to draw Peter and Dudley and I don’t care

So…yeah. Peter and Dudley happened again. On artist trading cards.

Also, Dudley was finished whilst I was watching Oscar’s Orchestra on YouTube and I probably shouldn’t admit to that but I really don’t care.

  • PETE: If you ask me, there must be something in this occult business. You remember my Uncle Bert?
  • DUD: Very vaguely.
  • PETE: That's how people remember him, very vaguely, my Uncle Bert. Well, one day he was in the kitchen. He'd just finished having tea, you know, like you or me, and he was just about to place the milk in the fridge when suddenly this black cat ran in front of him. Of course, what he should have done is stood on his head, thrown the milk backwards and crossed himself to avoid evil spirits. Well, he was very late for the pictures so he didn't take any precautions and sure enough seven years, four months, and three days later he was run down by a bus.
  • DUD: That shows you, Pete, you can't ignore the omens.
  • PETE: You mustn't ignore the omens, no. Of course, Uncle Bert, he used to dabble in the occult, especially during the warm weather. I remember once, it must have been the summer of 1953, a blazing hot afternoon, I just come down the stairs and I went into the sitting room and there was Uncle Bert, sitting there, with all the heavy velvet curtains drawn. You remember those heavy velvet curtains they used to have?
  • DUD: Very vaguely.
  • PETE: Well they were drawn, fairly distinctively, and he was sitting there in the dark. So I said, 'I'm sorry to disturb you, Uncle Burt', and he said, 'Oh no, come on in, Pete. I'm looking into the secrets of the future'. So I sat down. He had these amazing tarot cards, you know the tarot cards. He was taking one tarot out after the other, throwing it on the table and predicting the future, it was quite incredible, Dud. He said, 'During the next ten years an amazingly important event will occur.' Sure enough four years later, World War II broke out. And that wasn't the only thing. You want to know what he said as well?
  • DUD: Yer.
  • PETE: He said, 'The weather is going to be unpredictable'. He predicted that years before it happened.

So both Peter and Dudley ended up happening. I’m so predictable.

Well, it’s actually one of your better bad ideas, but it’ll take you a long time and you’re very busy.

They mash up suspiciously well. I first discovered this in 2007 and did a very crude mashup that basically involved me playing both videos at once and actually filming the screen of my computer with a camcorder. Oh, how things have changed since I was a senior in high school.

I need to find that tape. It was strangely good given my technological limits.

Anyway, Glamorous is a song by Fergie and Alan A’Dale is a sketch Peter Cook and Dudley Moore did on Not Only…But Also. The mashup works best if Alan A’Dale is on mute, because it gives the impression that they’re performing Fergie’s song.

Here’s the first set of practice sketches for the OC project!

This was the first time I’ve ever drawn a MLP: FiM fan character, and I think I still need a little work on the rear legs. Everyone else, though, came pretty readily, so I was happy about that.

Yes, that’s a sketch of Dudley Moore in the upper right corner. He’s my favorite, okay?

Every character involved in this project is going to have their own tag on my Tumblr, so I’ll make sure you can find your characters’ prelim sketches so you can let me know if I should change anything before the big drawing.

(Also, not-fun, I couldn’t resist drawing Cial again. His eyepatch really does remind me of my dog Barnaby’s.)

DUDLEY IS PERFECT. THE END.

…I should go to sleep.

This is my new Tumblr icon. No shame. I will always, always love Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (even though a large portion of Tumblr will never know of their greatness and this makes me sad).

Klout just made me cry by not letting me add this as a ‘topic of influence.’

Yeah, everyone should listen to this.

Here’s my index post - basically, this is where you’ll find links to all of the people I’ve drawn so far…and the ones people have said I should draw (and will draw once I get to ‘em!).

  • Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (and together, of course)
  • Everyone remotely involved with Monty Python in its various incarnations
  • Noel Fielding
  • Julian Barratt
  • Stephen Fry
  • Hugh Laurie
  • David Mitchell
  • Jimmy Carr

Now I need all of you to keep adding to this list as I draw, okay? I want to draw as many people as I possibly can here!

So here I am, reaaaaally getting back into British comedy because it’s one of the reasons I have my writing style, and I’m thinking, “Hey, you should draw all of these men and women who inspire you so much!” So I think I shall.

It’s fairly obvious that Peter Cook and Dudley Moore make the list because they’re my absolute favorites, but I want to draw a bunch of people - in fact, as many as I possibly can. So here’s the deal: you tell me who your favorite British comedians are, and I put them on paper. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up drawing the Pythons, because everyone loves them, but let’s see who else I should draw…

Who makes your list?

BOUGHT. YOU DON’T KNOW HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME. AMONGST OTHER THINGS, PETER AND DUDLEY ARE IN IT. AND THE ILLUSTRIOUS MR. SELLERS. AND MICHAEL CAINE. AND EVERYONE IS WEARING VICTORIAN CLOTHING SO IT’S SUPER-HOT AND OBVIOUSLY OUT OF MY WILDEST FANTASIES.
I’ll stop now.

YESSSSSSSSSSS. Alan A’Dale.
