I MEAN LOOK AT HIM HE IS SO CUTE AND ARROGANT AND TALLER THAN ALL OF THE REST OF THEM ALSO HE HAS HIS ARM AROUND JUNTA AND IS LEANING ON ONE OF THE KASUKABE TWINS LIKE FURNITURE HOW IS HE NOT UTTER PERFECTION???
but i wanna hear who everyone else thinks. great cases can be made for each one of these darlings THEY ARE ALL THE MOST PRECIOUS DARLINGS ahhh I CAN’T EVEN HANDLE IT WHY IS OOFURI SO PERFECT????
Okay, I’m going to make my case for Junta now. Be warned - I’m a baseball writer so there’s going to be some actual baseball jargon in here.
- Junta is the only pitcher in the show with a 3/4 arm slot. This, combined with his sinker, allows him to induce a lot of groundouts. A pitcher who tends towards groundouts gives up significantly less home runs.
- Junta has the best chemistry with his catcher. Junta and Kazuki act like a married couple, yes. There’s a reason for this - in Japan, there’s a lot more emphasis on the relationship between the pitcher and the catcher, and it’s what Mihashi and Abe are striving for but can’t quite achieve all of the time. Junta and Kazuki are held up as an example of how Mihashi and Abe can bond if they learn to trust each other implicitly.
- JUNTA HAS THE BEST SENSE OF HUMOR IN THE ENTIRE SERIES. There is nobody more easily amused than he is, and it just melts my stupid heart. Any pitcher who has giggle fits in the middle of a game is my kind of pitcher.
- He has an older brother complex and teases people to show them he loves them. The Oofuri stat files state that Junta has one younger brother, and he seems to have adopted Riou as another one. He teases Riou a lot, but it’s in an affectionate older sibling way (which I can attest to because I’m an older sibling and my younger brother and I affectionately give each other shit a lot). The one person he doesn’t seem to have it in him to gently tease is Kazuki, and that’s likely out of respect
and undying love. One of my pet peeves is when people think he’s being out-and-out mean, and he’s definitely not - he just shows people he cares by teasing them. It’s definitely better than what Riou has to endure at home. - Junta and Kazuki have adopted Riou as their ‘son.’ Going with their married couple dynamic, Riou is the ‘son’ in the family and they take care of him and are the older brothers he wishes he had. (Kazuki is the oldest of three siblings - he has a younger brother and a younger sister.) Junta and Kazuki actually look after Riou and give him emotional support and friendship, which he eventually also gets from Tajima.
Okay, I’ll stop before this turns into an essay, but basically Junta is my all-time favorite animated person and he makes me a happy camper.

In terms of anime I like, there are really two that stand out as favorites even though I’ve enjoyed many. Those two are Ookiku Furikabutte and Tiger & Bunny.
Oofuri actually is my all-time favorite animated thing in general, too. Then again, I love baseball.

If you watch anime and you’re following me and you haven’t watched Ookiku Furikabutte yet (aka Oofuri or Big Windup)
- Why not?
- Do it, it is seriously the best.
- When they announce season three I will be talking about nothing else so you might as well familiarize yourself.
Also, if you’re actually taking my advice, keep in mind that the first episode is really uncomfortably weird but you can’t skip it. After that it just starts melting your heart with adorableness. Also, watch the subs for the love of god, not the dub. 2 seasons. You can handle it.
Oofuri is about a (wildly awkward and poorly socially adjusted )boy named Mihashi who transfers to a new district for high school to escape the bullying he received for being the team pitcher of the school his grandfather owned. Entering Nishiura, his plan to never play baseball again is thwarted by the enthusiastic and talented misfits that form the new baseball team there. Turns out Mihashi is a special kind of pitching genius, and his talented and calculating (and also emotionally scarred in junior-high baseball) catcher might be the one to get his confidence and self-worth back!
IT IS SO PRECIOUS and no you don’t need to give a shit about baseball, I sure don’t. But the games are gripping and the characters are so endearing. YOU WILL CHEER.

There’s nothing I can add to this post except that one of the teams they play against has a pitcher and a catcher who act married and THEY ARE MY FAVORITES.
