Paul the Psychic Octopus, who correctly predicted World Cup match winners, was honored today at the Sea Life Centre in Oberhausen, Germany with this monument. Paul died in October.
Aquarium spokeswoman Tanja Munzig said the cremated ashes of Paul were placed in a gold-leaf-covered urn inside an oversized football that is part of the Paul monument.

So I just got up and I’m checking twitter, RIP PAUL THE OCTOPUS
I’m so upset like legit crying over this.Never forget
I’m so glad I’m not the only person utterly crushed by this.
RIP: Paul the Psychic Octopus, whose uncanny ability to correctly predict the outcome of the 2010 FIFA World Cup still baffles psychic animal specialists to this day, passed away last night in his enclosure at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre in Germany.
”He appears to have passed away peacefully during the night, of natural causes, and we are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here,” Sea Life Centre manager Stefan Porwoll is quoted as saying.
“We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine.”

RIP Paul. You were a brilliant octopi.
I legitimately almost cried. Paul was one of the highlights of my summer. Watching Italian TV and not understanding all of it and then suddenly hearing ‘il polpo Paul’ during the World Cup coverage made my night one day in Rome.

LOVE PAUL FOREVER
PAUL LIVES TO SEE ANOTHER DAY
IF HE WAS WRONG, THAT BITCH WOULD HAVE BEEN SUSHI
Paul never ceases to entertain me. I love when they mention him on Rai Uno when I’m watching games in Italian. It’ll be like, “Questo partito di calcio è finito! Paul è corretto ancora!”
I predict that the Germans are going to eat Paul for dinner if he happens to be correct.
¡Vamos España!
My mom loves Paul. She always asks me to look up his predictions and whatnot.
