Steph is a 2011 graduate of Gettysburg College (majored in history, minored in Civil War Era studies) and current graduate student at Pratt Institute (library science with a focus in Archival Studies) who loves baseball, anime, writing, drawing, Rogue Squadron, cars (and Top Gear), comedy (especially its history and, naturally, the British variety) and her cats and Old English Sheepdogs. Fond of Stanford even though she doesn't go there. Has Asperger's syndrome, a mild form of autism. Created the 30-Day Baseball Meme. One time she made a music video about Buster Keaton's love affair with trains. Since she's an archivist-in-training, she often preserves things on her own. See her scans here.

Author of the webcomic The Historians, the excuse to draw dead comedians called Comedian Heaven, and Londinium, a novel in the making set in 1863 London. Scriptwriter for the webcomic Home By Now, a story about time travel, music, history and general hijinks (meet the incredible artist here!).

Very occasionally posts about herself when she's not posting about baseball, dead people, Top Gear or her pets.

I’m catching up on Ask Rogue/Wraith Squadron (three drawings a day for seven days - totally doable), so you guys should go and ask the cast of my webcomic stuff. They don’t just answer questions about history, y’know - they’ll answer anything you throw at them, even the weirder things!

It does help with character development, amongst other things, but it’s a lot of fun for everyone involved!

Every time I answer questions, I get more immediately, usually whilst I’m answering them! I love that the blog is so popular (because I never do anything popular ever), but it’s a little bit overwhelming!

I’m so, so impressed with people who handle bigger ask blogs. I don’t know how you guys do it, but you’re incredible!

Tomorrow’s art-ing will involve the ask blogs. I’ve got

Of course, if you’re up for an art trade, too, just let me know! Since I’m doing ask blogs on my self-designated Ask Blog Tuesday, I’m going to spend the rest of the evening working on my character design project sponsored* by Seventh Sanctum.

*By ‘sponsored’ I mean ‘I generated a bunch of character designs on Seventh Sanctum and dared myself to draw all 100 of them.’

Everything’s done over there for now! Now I’ve got five more questions for Ask Rogue Squadron to handle…it seems my work is never done over there!

I’ve got two more there:

  • One regarding Daniel Butterfield, the composer of TAPS
  • One regarding books on Cold War espionage

I’ve also got four over at Ask Rogue Squadron, but those take considerably less research to do, so those’ll be done quickly. I’m thinking I can finish these all tomorrow since none of them are splash page thingies. Yay!

I really enjoy doing these. It’s silly, but I really do.

I had to go and be an actual historian and squeeze in a ton of things and not just be all “PROHIBITION ENDED AND PEOPLE WERE LIKE YAY!”

I’ve also got one new question for the folks over at Ask The Historians to answer now, too, so in the end, the status quo is the same:

Also, I get to perform my weekly ritual of reinstalling my scanner again, so even the splash page I’m doing right now probably won’t be online until tomorrow anyway. Ack. Sorry, everyone, I’m going as fast as I can!

So I’ll be working on ask blogs!

I don’t think that’s too bad…

  • I’m pretty much set to go to Pratt: as soon as I know my other recommendation letters are sent, I’m clicking ‘send’ on my application. This is super-exciting and nerve-wracking.
  • The insurance people gave us a update - and Chase could come home as soon as today or tomorrow! I’m so beyond happy to see him soon!
  • …and that being said, I’ve been left with Dad’s MINI today. OH YES I GET THE RACECAR.
  • I’ve sort of caught up with Ask Rogue Squadron, which means I really haven’t caught up - I had seventeen questions and I’m down to nine left at the time of this posting. I’ve still got the inbox closed, though.
  • My sleep schedule is really, really off. Whatevs.
  • I got to meet Mac and Rich on Wednesday at a Mets game and I’m anticipating telling my therapy group this on Tuesday. Every time I think about it, I cry because I’m so happy.

Finally, here’s a stupid question: I’m thinking of starting an ask blog for The Historians, but instead of them simply fielding questions about themselves I’m going to set it up so that the characters can offer help with people’s history homework, history career advice, and that sort of thing. Basically, you’d be able to ask them about their jobs, about history itself, and…well, I guess if you need advice on buying a car Ells is available for that, too. Should I do it?

I’m the stupid mod who runs this one and I was wondering if I’m not alone…
